A good example of this is Rules.

Skinr module implements the 'rules' type, but if we try to module_invoke('rules', $something) we run into trouble, since rules is not a module but a content type that Skinr can apply to.

This task is mostly to make code more grokable, not to change any functionality.

D7 reached its EOL back in January 2025, and there is no active release for D7 for this module anymore.
Development or support is not planned for D7. All D7-related issues are marked as outdated in a bunch.
