well, here we go - again . . . . .
( I say "again" because this seems to have been a recurring issue over time in "category issues")

"An illegal choice has been detected. Please contact the site administrator."

- for a blank site
- add container : ok
- add category after adding container: no way : "An illegal choice . . . . ."

have spent over 5 hours on this, trying anything and everything.
any ideas much appreciated, with thanks.

additional information regarding this issue:
when creating category, within the section "category information" , the drop-down list that should provide the container name ("The container that this category belongs in.") is empty. for hours I could not figure out wherefrom this problem originates.

just for your information:

- after wasting a whole day:
- I re-installed previous category version 5.x-1.0
- which works perfect re: this issue

- kindly request:
- maintainers to be very careful before committing a new version

and having said that, one more time biggest thanks to the volunteers who build this code - they are a very special group of individuals

You note in #1 that the containers list is empty. That would easily cause a validation error like that.

Unable to reproduce with DRUPAL-5--1-1.

What is the entire set of modules are you enabling during installation?

I wanted to test further, for accuracy's sake, before reverting, and I am happy to say that upon a clean install of latest category release 5.x-1.x-dev this issue is no more present - concluding that some misconfiguration somewhere in my previous setup (still unknown to me) prevented the category module from functioning properly.
