Is there a way to re-create the tags for already imported feeds?

I have imported a couple of hundred feed items, but would like to restructure my tags. I can delete the existing tags, but would like to force MN to re-tag all "old" items according to the new tag-structure.

Along the same lines as this, I want to rewrite tags that are pulled in from Pinboard.in.

With Pinboard.in, tags are space delimited. So when this feed is pulled in, the multiple tags are treated as a single tag.
Also, this forced us to hyphenate true multi-word tags in Pinboard.

What we would like to do is re-write those tags replacing the spaces with commas and the hyphenated tags with spaces.

Seems like there might be away to do this with the Rules Module, but I'm not a Rules expert.

What I'm thinking of trying is adding a checkbox on the feed node creation form to select whether or not rewrite imported tags, and if so then the Rules module can do that maybe.

Any suggestions on how to better do this and what Peter is asking about would be great!
