The double-opt in worked but i received this error.
Notice: Undefined property: stdClass::$name in mailchimp_subscribe_user() (line 83 of /srv/www/d7/public_html/sites/all/modules/contrib/mailchimp/mailchimp.module).

levelos commentedLikely caused by the ability to associate anonymous user with optional and required lists, which should not have been the case. No longer allowed!

lmeurs commentedGot the same error (Drupal 7.7 and MailChimp module 7.x-2.0): we created a 'free form' for all roles and selected a mailinglist. At first under 'Merge fields' we left 'First name' and 'Last name' blank, but also gave them a default value of 'User ID' and 'Name'.
We added a 'Join mailinglist' form as a block and submitted this form as an anonymous user and administrator, both times we encountered the same error message:
