The double-opt in worked but i received this error.

Notice: Undefined property: stdClass::$name in mailchimp_subscribe_user() (line 83 of /srv/www/d7/public_html/sites/all/modules/contrib/mailchimp/mailchimp.module).

actually look at this screenshot for user registrations bc i also had Name field filled out

Likely caused by the ability to associate anonymous user with optional and required lists, which should not have been the case. No longer allowed!

I get same error as above, but I don't have anonymous users associated with optional lists. Anyone else getting this too?

Got the same error (Drupal 7.7 and MailChimp module 7.x-2.0): we created a 'free form' for all roles and selected a mailinglist. At first under 'Merge fields' we left 'First name' and 'Last name' blank, but also gave them a default value of 'User ID' and 'Name'.

We added a 'Join mailinglist' form as a block and submitted this form as an anonymous user and administrator, both times we encountered the same error message:
