Any chance this could be expanded to work with Notifications module?

This would be super awesome if it could be expanded to work with the Notifications module as well as the Privatemsg module. I'll work on adapting it to Notifications, and if I ever get it working I'll try submitting a patch for anyone else who may be interested. If anyone else works on this, posting your patch would be much appreciated.
