Need the ability to insert inline tags in nodes referring back to a bibliography entry. Such as [biblio:5] would insert a link to node number 5 which is a biblio entry.

Great! We're looking forward to it :-)

The ideal way would for one to have a drop down list of a biblio entry and then when one selects and entry then the tag is inserted in the text. As an example img_assist does this.
