The styles included in advanced_forum don't style the thead that is at the top of the forum. Instead, the default drupal theming of the forum is shown. For an example, see the attachment.

Am I doing something wrong? Or is the theme missing some css?

It tries to, but your theme has the last word. If the theme styles something very specifically, it overrides AF. Use Firebug to find the bit that's doing it and make adjustments as needed in your theme's CSS.
