After upgrading no default image dimensions and size were given, this caused errors.
It also means the admin has to edit each and every image settings within the flexinode forms one by one.

Is there any way the image settings can be set by default during the upgrade ?

Closing this issue. Allthough it is still a bug. No-one has jumped in, so there is too little chance that anyone will still fix a 4.4 issue.
