We are a small municipality looking at redesigning our website. We are looking for a content management system, a new professional look and increased functionality (email notification, polls, fillable forms, calendars, etc). Does anyone know of government (city, county) websites created with joomla?

We also are looking at drupal. If anyone is familar with both joomla and drupal, we are looking for which would be best and/or easier for a newbie to learn. We do not have our own IT staff. Thanks.

I have developed a small municipal site with with our friend Drupal. All of the features you mention are easily implemented. Drupal is the easiest to use IMO for both users and administrators.

I have not developed a live site with Joomla because it has never passed my tests/evaluations.

You will get Joomla answers on the Joomla forums.

There are lots of government sites using Drupal. Probably both.

http://drupal.org/search/node/city
http://drupal.org/search/node/county
Will get you some mixed with other results. I know that there is at least one small city using Drupal for it's site and from memory it is using Book module to keep it's published 'regulations(?)' up to date at a much cheaper cost then commercial packages. I just don't have time to hunt it down for you.

We have recently developed several municipal sites using Drupal.

Two of the finished sites are: www.pendletonpolice.com (Pendleton, Oregon Police Dept.) and www.malheurco.org (Malheur County, Oregon website) We are currently developing another city website, one for the local community college and other sites as well.

I continue to be impressed with Drupal the more I use it because of it's flexibility and features.

Drupal continues to get more and more popular for cities, towns, villages, and counties.

All of these municipal websites are built on Drupal:

www.co.sauk.wi.us
www.tri-cityservicedistrict.org
www.orcity.org
www.westlinnoregon.gov
www.cityofpeekskill.com
www.newbergoregon.gov
