I am migrating my website into Drupal.

I am wondering however how to do the multi-language part without losing SEO performance. I would prefer a solution with /en/ and /nl/, without multiple Drupal installations. Unfortunately this does not seem possible without programming a lot and as a new Drupal user I find things intimidating enough as it is. Mainly the fact that I don't think I am capable of rewriting the current theme into Drupal.

What would be the best solution? If a homepage has multiple content in multiple languages, it seems only the English language will get indexed by Google and I'd lose a lot of potential search results.

SEO is important for my website. This is fortunately my only website (made in 2001) that has multiple languages and I'd find it a good challenge to migrate the poor old source code to Drupal as it will teach me to quickly develop good websites in the future.

Advice is welcome! I have already watched the entire Lynda: Drupal 7 Essentials video collection and hoping to learn lots about Drupal in the upcoming weeks. I am just not sure how to fix this multiple languages + SEO issue.

We have been working with Drupal for years and doing seo for even more. It's a very common problem. How we had success was to always focus on one language for main site and create a new site for other lang. It's the best way to stay away from duplicate content issues and other issues. I think Google has help section to shed light on this?
