Anonymous cannot access content ( access deny )

PePiToO - February 22, 2007 - 23:26

Use :
- drupal 5.1
- Server PHP 5
- MySQL 5.2

Admin account have no problem to loggin, created all the website structures, added modules ( category, IMCE, TinyMCE ), added category, container, page, story etc...

Admin and all created users can access everywhere.

Problem : Anonymous have a deny access to everywhere.
-Homepage is the " Welcome to your new Drupal website!" node
-When I use a container or category link, access is denied.
-When I want to access a page or story I created ( by using URL ), redirected to the " Welcome to your new Drupal website!" node

I already set Anonymous can access to " content" in the access list... is there anything else to do? what' s wrong with it ?

Thanks

i really don't know what to

PePiToO - February 28, 2007 - 01:01

i really don't know what to do with this big problem and my searches have no result...

sounds like you added than

VeryMisunderstood - February 28, 2007 - 01:05

sounds like you added than removed an access module. see: http://drupal.org/node/64114 and run the necessary querries to reset your node_access table.

I followed your link and

PePiToO - March 1, 2007 - 00:53

I followed your link and execute the querries step by step, but it is finally the same, :
-Welcome to drupal! when access
-Access deny if i click on a menu link ( which is a container or category. )

Anonymous still cannot access content ! It's been2 weeks nobody can access the website already -_-'

Is anyone have an idea ? The website is : www.srp-nc.com

( which is a container or

VeryMisunderstood - March 1, 2007 - 01:13

( which is a container or category. )

The above only comes with the contrib module called category.module unless anon users are given permission to use category.module then they will recieve access denied.

so how to manage this ?

PePiToO - March 1, 2007 - 08:20

so how to manage this ?

I don't use the contrib

VeryMisunderstood - March 1, 2007 - 19:26

I don't use the contrib category.module however, if you want anonymous users to be able to create categories and containers, assign that user role the proper permissions in administer -> access control.

Not sure why you would want anon users to have this much control over the structure of your site, it can get messy very quick allowing users create containers and categories.

I just want anonymous to

PePiToO - March 2, 2007 - 01:03

I just want anonymous to access the container, category and content, not to modify them !!!!
I enable the access content for anonymous, but it is still "access deny" if they click on one category .... check on the website : www.srp-nc.com
-In my menu, some links represent container or a category. If an anonymous click on it, it is "access deny"
-Same for articles.
-Even if an article has been promoted to the front page, anonymous still cannot see it ( still the first "welcome to drupal" message )

I am really lost, and look seriously for help

what "other" modules are

VeryMisunderstood - March 2, 2007 - 01:23

what "other" modules are installed on your site ? that may effect access control ? are you using organic groups ? taxonomy access ?

Without being in your backend, its difficult to help beyond asking you many questions.

Maybe consider a reinstallation and set things up slower to see where your problem is occuring.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help, but I don't know what could be causing your problems at this point. I looked at your site, there is no way for anyone to register or login, so it didnt show me much. I understand you are getting the persistent welcome to Drupal Screen, typically this is because content not being publish to the front page, or because the node access table had been messed up.

The only people who will

PePiToO - March 2, 2007 - 03:14

The only people who will have to login are the administrator to change the content and create news, so i don't want anybody else to subscribe and manage it.

There are a few modules installed :
Taxonomy
Category
Views
Upload
TinyMCE and MCE
Localizer

No other modules installed... Do i have to install the taxonomy access ?

no you don't have to install

VeryMisunderstood - March 2, 2007 - 03:26

no you don't have to install taxonomy access.module if you had it installed and not set up properly it could have had something to do with your problem. Obviously if you don't it can't be the cause.

category module comes with "many" modules in its folder. WHICH modules are enabled under the category module? I believe one of them are an access module.

again though, I personally think you should start over. so that you can better determine whats going on. your problem is most certainly related to something that has to do with access. Exactly what ? I have no clue.

I have the category control

PePiToO - March 2, 2007 - 05:06

I have the category control access lite installed, should i uninstall it ? how to configure it ?

If I have to start over, does it mean I will have to do all the content, category, container again ?

disable....

VeryMisunderstood - March 2, 2007 - 05:28

dissblae the category access control module and see if your site returns to normal functionality. As I stated a few times, I don't use that specific module so I can't be sure where to set it up at. however, it seems to be the cause of your problems since it is access module related.

more documentation about the category module can be found on the developers website, which is http://category.greenash.net.au/, I believe. I am sure its in the readme.txt or install.txt. have you read over these documents ?

why did you install the category access control module if you aren't sure what it does ? you should only install modules you are sure you need.

In future .... when you list modules that you are running, list them all, not just the kind of module, but all modules that come with a specific module. It makes helping you much easier.

Same problem with Drupal 5.1 site

posbis - March 29, 2007 - 09:09

I have exactly the same situation with my Drupal 5.1 site.

Did you finally get a solution to regain access for anonymous users ?
(When I accss your site it seems that every thing works. Am I wrong ?)

I had the contact and taxonomy (forum needs taxonomy) modules installed but I uninstalled them after reading this article. But again I still have the same issue. Anonymous users get "Access denied" when accessing any content. I just want them to be able to read/display an article. Admin user will be the only one managing content.

Any help would be appreciated

Regards,
Oliver

if you have had an access

VeryMisunderstood - March 29, 2007 - 16:30

if you have had an access module installed at some point and turned it off (Organic Groups, Taxonomy Access, Simple Access and the like) improperly you can run into these types of issues and the node access table gets to be a mess. to reset the node access table see: http://drupal.org/node/64114

Same problem

NancyDru - March 30, 2007 - 02:49

I'm helping someone who has this same problem. He tried CAC_Lite, TAC_Lite, and Node Access. All three are now gone. I have looked at the node_access table and it appears to be correct (one row, 0, 0, all, 1, 0, 0). The devel node access report says Your node_access table contains entries that may be granting all users access to all nodes. It also says You have 58 nodes in your node table which are not represented in your node_access table. If you have an access control module installed, these nodes may be hidden from all users. There is currently no access control module installed (unless you count "amember," whatever that is).

An anon user can see teasers, but not the full node.

does the table have records

VeryMisunderstood - March 30, 2007 - 02:53

does the table have records in it ? if so and there are no more access modules installed, truncate (empty) it.

Now

NancyDru - March 30, 2007 - 03:40

Now I get "Welcome to your new Drupal website!"

and the table hasn't changed

VeryMisunderstood - March 30, 2007 - 03:49

and the table hasn't changed ? I'd run the query below any way, nothing horrible can come from it.

INSERT INTO node_access (nid, gid, realm, grant_view, grant_update, grant_delete) VALUES (0, 0, 'all', 1, 0, 0);

I did

NancyDru - March 30, 2007 - 03:51

After I did that, I'm back where I started. I have also tried node_access_rebuild.

Did you have the "Views" module install?

NukeHavoc - April 4, 2007 - 19:12

Did you have the "Views" module installed?

I had the same thing happen to me, and after I disabled the Views module (and the "Audio Module" that depended on it) the problem went away. I'm not sure what the issue was/is -- I'll have to try and replicate it on my test server and see what happened. It might be a problem with my custom theme, but I doubt it since the problems remained when I changed themes.

I'd have to check

NancyDru - April 4, 2007 - 22:36

I'd have to check the site, but since it is heavily CCK'd (and doesn't need to be), I'd be willing to bet that Views is there. As a matter of fact, despite the fact that *I* haven't been able to make it work for me, I think most of my 14 sites have it installed because so many other modules rely on it.

red herrings

NukeHavoc - April 8, 2007 - 03:19

Unfortunately, this problem reappeared on Friday, so I think that disabling Views was not the reason why the site started working again ... or why it spontaneously stopped.

I'm seeing two issues:

1) Anonymous users can not access anything on the site, and get a page not found error.
2) Logged in users *can* see the site, but the block content doesn't load in the side bars. Changing themes doesn't cause the content to return.

What's *really* odd is that the site fixes itself; these problems -- which I can verify are happening on different computers at the same time -- eventually go away. I don't know why this happens, or why they show up again and unfortunately I haven't had a chance to do any real research while the problem is happening to see what might be causing it.

My gut reaction when it happened over the weekend was that it was some sort of weird throttling issue, but I don't have throttling enabled, and Google Analytics isn't seeing a huge spike in traffic.

Very strange.

Nancy, i'm having a similar

YesCT - March 20, 2008 - 19:57

Nancy, i'm having a similar problem. i'm running a 6.1 install (with just the devel module) and as user 1 i can access and edit everything, but a user (who is ironically called nancy) and has the role "editor" and the "editor" role has the "permission" to "edit all stories" and "edit all pages" ... can only edit some stories and some pages.

So i installed the devel module and enabled the block, and in the node_access summary i get:
----
Node_access summary
Access Granted to All Nodes (All Users)

Your node_access table contains entries that may be granting all users access to all nodes. Depending on which access control module(s) you use, you may want to delete these entries. If you are not using an access control module, you should probably leave these entries as is.
realm
realm
all
Legacy Nodes

You have 14 nodes in your node table which are not represented in your node_access table. If you have an access control module installed, these nodes may be hidden from all users. This could be caused by publishing nodes before enabling the access control module. If this is the case, manually updating each node should add it to the node_access table and fix the problem.
----

and when i click on 14 (it is a link to: devel/node_access/view/NULL) i get:
----
Page not found
The requested page could not be found.
----

I kinda expected to get a list of the trouble nodes...

So what i did, was i went to one of the nodes that should be editable by nancy and i added a space in the content, and saved it... but it is still giving me trouble, and reloading the node_access summary page does not show "14" go to "13"...

any ideas?

NancyDru - March 21, 2008 - 03:03

Perhaps the similar node access summary feature in the Site Documentation module will work better. Certainly that link should not end in "NULL".

file issue with devel module?

YesCT - March 21, 2008 - 03:53

You noticed the post! Hi... should I file an issue with devel module about the NULL?

Cathy Theys

Yes, I did

NancyDru - March 21, 2008 - 11:41

It wouldn't hurt. I would open it as a support request. Explain what's happening. If they want to change it to a bug report, they can.

My problem was the posts

YesCT - March 21, 2008 - 03:52

My problem was the posts that could not be edited were a input format/type that the user was not allowed to use (unfiltered html). So i changed the posts to be filtered html, and/or i added some allowed tags to the filtered html type, and/or i made an intermediate html type and gave the user permission to use that input type too.

So there is still one (in my case) node my user with edit role cannot edit, but i know why... it is because i dont trust them with all the complicated html in the node!

This worked for me

seaneffel - April 4, 2007 - 23:23

This worked for me. My anonymous users could not view page content, but could view all others. All other users had no issues. I saw that my access control grid was checked off as intended, so this link game me the solution: http://drupal.org/node/64114. All problems solved, thanks!

worked, but dont forget to reset the TAC

mrsocks - May 16, 2007 - 19:16

This worked for me, but dont forget to reset the TAC setting for the anon user.

Also worked for me!

PCanzona - April 21, 2007 - 11:14

Anonymous users could not see recent submissions, poll results or even access the "About Us" page. Reset the node access as instructed above and everything went back to normal. Thanks guys!

verlierer - April 29, 2007 - 20:58

Thank you, everyone for this conversation.

Truncating and resetting the node_access table worked for me. I had the same type of issue. Basically, I had a site that already had content, but for some reason only the admin role could see the content that had been created after a certain date. (whenever the problem occured.) I was at the time struggling with using the community tags and tagedelic modules to create a free tagging taxonomy. I believe the problem had to do with the taxonomy access module. I uninstalled and deleted the table for taxonomy access(among other things), but the problem remained until following the instructions above. thanks all.

All about the node module

tqsenkungu - May 31, 2007 - 18:37

I had the same error until I made sure anonymous users was checked for the access content line of the node module. Hope it helps!

Worked for me too

zorroposada - March 6, 2008 - 21:17

My site was full of content, all roles but anonymous role were able to see content. I played with access control but nothing helped. I then saw this post and followed the node_access instructions, they solved my problem.

I think this problem has some how to do with caching.

When I went to check my node_access table, I found that it was empty and was not optimized, it had 20kb of overhead. I am not sure if this is of any help.

Fortunately everything is fine now.

Thanks

Worked for me too (2)

druryjeff - April 22, 2008 - 16:22

I installed and uninstalled the Workflow module yesterday. Evidently I did it the wrong way. Any new content entered or edited since then has been unavailable to anonymous users. Following the instructions on this oft-sited page - http://drupal.org/node/64114 - using phpMyAdmin worked like a charm.
