Hi

I want to build an e-commerce website using drupal.
I would like to know whether I should build it using drupal 6 since it is more stable and has more extensions and modules to add.
Or can I start using drupal 7 directly since most of the extensions and modules are also applicable to this version.

In other words, I am trying to avoid a situation where I have to rollback to version 6 because of a specific module/development that is only available on version 6.

Thank you in advance.

I would determine what I need

I would determine what I need first and use Drupal 7 if possible, otherwise Drupal 6

What kind of ecommece site is

What kind of ecommece site is it? Downloads, subscriptions, physical products, shipping, wishlists etc. "eCommerce" is too generic to determine what is the "best solution". List out your features.

online merchandise

Hi
I am trying to list items for sale. So I will need another module for buying online.
So to answer your question, it is a physical product + shipping them to customers. Amazon style.

I want to avoid to point where it says, Ah, this (Ubercart for example) is compatible with drupal6 not 7.

Thank you again and sorry for the late reply.

Same predicament

hi i am trying to setup Drupal 7 for an e-commerce site, but i am finding that there is are still modules like up-sell and Secure Pages are not drupal 7 compatible..

i am thinking along the lines that i will have go back to Drupal 6.

I can't get Google check out to work either.

Paypal i am trying now.. fingers crossed.

What is a stable checkout service for Ubercart?

Thanks

Drupal 6 gets my vote!

I would personally go with Drupal 6. I am fairly new to Drupal, but having played around with Drupal & UberCart, my choice at the end of the day would be Drupal 6 & UberCart.

Drupal 7 can possibly go with Drupal Commerce, but I am still learning to integrate and tweak the two!

Ubercart is also available

Ubercart is also available for Drupal 7 and for new sites I strongly recommend going with Drupal 7.

Drupal Commerce

I agree entirely that Drupal 7 is the way to go now. However, I would recommend Drupal Commerce over Ubercart. I've used both with Drupal 7 in the past year (used Ubercart with prior Drupal versions too), and while Drupal Commerce feels a little different, it answers some complex backend issues with systems like Ubercart. It was developed by some of the main people from Ubercart who wanted to rearchitect the e-commerce api to take advantage of Drupal 7's new features like the Entity API. Try looking at Commerce Kickstart v2.

Oh yeah, even though this

Oh yeah, even though this question was asked 1 year ago, the Drup7 is still a bit green (in my opinion), and I just couldn't find some compatible modules so I had to reinvent things. But as the community grows larger and sticks to Drup7, who knows, may be next year the drup6 will become deprecated as well. Sigh... :)
