one line heading for new post..

Does anyone know if Drupal can get a chronological display of newly posted content which has a one line heading for new post, and if viewer clicks on that heading, viewer goes to the full posting? I'd rather not have a full posting in the Archive but rather a bird's eye view and let viewer click on the one line heading to go to full post. This eliminates having to scroll through so much postings.
