Perhaps we can integrate the database of CoreSMS? They seem to have many carriers already set up. Their site is:

What would also be useful is to be able to select, in the SMS Email admin settings, two profile fields-- one where we ask their cell phone, and another where we ask their carrier.

And if somebody really has time, better integration with Mime mail, subscribe notifications, newsletters, or other modules? Or at least example code so we (the less educated programmers like myself) can start hacking our own solutions.

We have already started thinking of integration with CoreSMS.
Since CoreSMS is very simple and have many things Drupal already has (DB layer, flood control, log, user table, etc.) I think that thr integration will be just 'Take a huge database of carriers into our module' and add some nice features.
