I just finished converting this site from a static html page to a dynamic drupal site about a month before American Idol started. For those of you that aren't familiar with this somewhat controversial site it goes out of its way to promote bad singers or those who otherwise would not be the favorite of the producers. They get a lot of media attention and this season its been as big as ever.
Version
I chose to use version 4.7 because 5.0 was released a couple weeks after I started working on the site. After I converted a site to 5.x it just didn't have the options that I needed.
Forums
Initially I wanted to convert their phpBB forums to use the drupal forums but I was low on time and that didn't make the cut. I have real good integration with phpBB though. It would be hard to tell that they are using different software.
Scale
Currently it's on a beefy dedicated server.
2 - Intel Core Duo 2 2.4 Ghz Processors
2 Gigs of ram
Raided 320 Gig hard drives
The server is getting hit pretty hard and we might have to scale this a little more. We get on average of 250,000-300,000 page views per day and 1,500,000 - 2,000,000 hits per day. That equals out to about 40 gigs of bandwidth per day as well. I enlisted in the Boost module in order to keep the server responsive. Without that it was choking quite a bit.
What does everyone think?

your phpbb
your phpbb is themed in well...are you sharing the login with drupal, or are they separate systems?
Oh, and non-drupal-related, but there's some mods to remove the session id from the phpbb to give you cleaner URLs...
Drupal is the master. If
Drupal is the master. If you try to login on phpBB it will redirect you to drupal to login and then redirect you back. The profile link will redirect you to the drupal profile which I themed to be similar to the phpBB profile. The private messaging as well is on the drupal site. I'm using .htaccess to redirect all the links in the whole forum for these.
I've already done the hacks to remove SID's from URLs in the forum. Are you seeing them?
only on the toc
only on the forum toc. When looking at a particular forum or looking at a thread, the sid is gone.
Probably nothing to worry about!! I'm just familiar with phpbb and know the mods when I see them.
Cheers!
Very strange. It's not
Very strange. It's not showing the SID for me unless I'm actually logged in.

Very nice -- I was just admiring the fact that the site uses Drupal :)
