Send to friend not mailing with no status - how do i debug?

I installed send and mimemail. Send to a friend seemed to be working fine for a day or two. I was recieving test emails to my mail account.

However, it just recently stopped working.

I don't recieve any emails and I don't recieve any status after submitting send to a friend. It doesn't matter what content type I try to evoke send to a freind from.

Note. When it was working, when i hit my threshold limit of 10, i would get at least get a status that my threshold had been reached. So i bumped the threshold up and i believe it worked for a little while. Now, it's not working without any status about reaching a threashold or that a message has been sent.

1) how do i debug this? there are no errors and there is nothing telling me that i've reached my threshold limit so that it won't send?

2) just to insure the threshold wasn't the problem, i set threshold to 50 in send to a friend defaults. However when i try to change the threshold in send modules defaults from 10 to anything else and hit submit, it never accepts the changes. It always goes back to 10 without any warning or error message?????

Why is that happening?

Also, why is there a separate send module config defaults from send to friend config defaults? where else are the send modules used other than send to friend? utterly confused on that one..
