I have absolutely ZERO programming experience or savvy. Although very
bright, I can't even seem to find a place to even begin with this software. Trying to create the basics of a simple social networking site. Is there a true step-by-step instruction guide as to how to get started? Run with
my domain name, etc? Thanks so much for your help.

My e-mail is whitmanloans@hotmail.com if anyone can help. Thanks again.

Don't give up! Definitely read the handbook on drupal basics, it explains the general structure and taxonomy. spend some time with it. Use the tutorials, too. Then, you might want to check this out for a very quick site:
http://drupal.org/node/31896

If you want more dynamic social networking site, you'll want to read up on forums and the story (and comment) content creation in the handbook section of this site.

I'm a relative newbie too (tho I'm used to creating pages in html) and it's not hard at all. good luck and have fun.

I can't find a handbook. That's how little I know about this stuff. I tried to download and run and something called Winzip comes up. I don't know what this is. I can learn it if there's a handbook, as long as it assumes an absolute zero starting point for knowledge on the subject. Does this exist? Thanks again for any help.

the handbooks can be found, using the tabs at the top of this website. The one titled "Handbooks" to be more sepcific. Once there , you will no doubt want to start with the Cookbook, to familiarize yourself with Drupal set up.

If you don't know how to unzip a file, you may well be over your head. Look into that first and come back to this later. You need to download Drupal, unzip it, and put it somewhere - on a remote server (hosting), or your own computer to be configured properly for development. It sounds like you're pretty new to all of this, so good luck.

you will also need the proper environment to run it one. Its not a program that will "just run" in windows. Drupal expects to be in a server type environment.
