We recently launched a drupal-based website for the third-party developer community of NII Holdings, a mobile operator which does business as Nextel in five Latin American countries -- it's at http://programa.nii.com
Our requirements were not too simple:
- simultaneous management of content in three languages (English, Spanish and Portuguese)
- a robust metadata system for categorizing content
- extensive ability for collaboration
- flexible definition of structured information (such as a device specifications database)
- tiered access roles to show certain information to authorized people
- distributed administration
- easy customization
- cost effective
- strong and scalable.
Drupal met the needs, and far exceeded those of systems I've used in the past to host similar sites.
From concept to launch, it was only three months of work for one person, and that included developing the content in three languages.
Between having access to the code, a great developer community and modules already built to do what multi-million-dollar content management systems can only do after an army of consultants get through it, Drupal is by far one of the strongest tools I've been able to use to do this.
