Yahoo! Answers like Functionality

DayShallCome - February 28, 2007 - 04:59

I'm trying to add a Yahoo! Answers type functionality to my website Yahoo! Answers. Anyone have any idea how I can go about associating an infinite number of "answers" to a question? Thanks.

questions module

Yahoo! Answers does a lot. For basic submission of questions, have you looked at the questions module?

Yup, I've looked at it, and

Yup, I've looked at it, and it seems interesting. However, it doesn't seem scalable to the point of having multiple Answers, and having each of these Answers rated by other users. How would I associate a certain Node type to another, the way Answers are related to Questions?

My approach to this

My approach to this would be using a combination of Node comment, CCK and a voting package like Node Vote.

Node comment turns comments into nodes and CCK allows you to create a custom content type to use for comments (and questions, for that matter). Node Vote lets users vote on those comment nodes.

"Best Answer"

This seems workable - but then we'd also need something to happen like after 30 days, the answer with the highest score becomes the "Best Answer" and the comment becomes a sticky, or something like that.
Would this be possible?

May be possible with Action

May be possible with Action and voting Action modules

* Actions http://drupal.org/project/actions
* Voting Actions http://drupal.org/node/46895

Check out the vote up down package to have an idea

http://drupal.org/project/vote_up_down

That Voting Actions thing

That Voting Actions thing seems perfect, because in the description it says that a usage example would be:

makes the node sticky if more than 50 people rate it a 10.

So if one
* Makes comments nodes
* Installs voting system
* Installs Voting Actions

then that should be about it!

topic module

it has most of the functionality, but only available for 4.6

someone would like to help upgrade it ?

There's an Answers project (though there are no releases yet):

This module adds a question & answer service to your site. Users are able to post their question and receive answers from others. Once a satisfactory answer has been posted the user can accept the answer and close the question.

sounds like the thing

but where do we get it :)

The answers module is available now.

I did a quick test and made some screenshots here. Overall I think this is a very nice module.

Here's a drupal website that tries to create something like yahoo answers:
http://www.howwhatwho.com/

so how they have created it

poseidon123 - June 1, 2008 - 22:48

so how they have created it ?

It looks like HowWhatWho

christefano - June 9, 2008 - 05:23

It looks like HowWhatWho only allows voting on the questions and not the answers.

I think they implemented

Marcelb - June 23, 2008 - 19:34

I think they implemented that a few weeks ago, when did you see the website last time?
Also ICQ.com has created some sort of yahoo answers like website. Are they also using drupal ? looks like it to me .... but I'm not sure
