Hoping that someone might recognize what the problem might be, and offer some advice.
I replaced the simple access module with the premium module. So far, not happy. The premium module is supposed to do everything I was looking for -- the problem is that the module appears to be functioning EXCEPT not only does it display the custom notice to non-members (i.e., "content of this post is restricted to registered members only") but the module ALSO (above the custom notice) goes ahead and provides all the content anyway!
WTF!!??
Any idea what the problem might be? I hope I'm not going to have to ditch this module as, although simple access was good and I can go back to it if I have to it also blocked all the subject lines (not just the post body content) which was unacceptable, as then when people visit the site they see no content, assume there is nothing there, and leave without registering (as, why register if there is no content?).
ARGH!!

Oh, I get by with a little help from my friends
It would certainly help if you were to describe or post your module code for us to test.
Re: premium module
It is the already published "premium" module, available in the modules downloads.
Works for me...
I installed the Premium module on my Drupal 4.7.1 test server, and it works fine for me.
Could it be that you are using 5.1?
