Main menu is displayed incorrectly in IE9 [#1234304]

In IE9 the main menu is displayed expanded. This is fixed when IE9 compatibility mode is enabled.

I have solved this problem forcing the IE compatibility mode to on using the meta tag:
<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=Edge"/>"

Seems like this issue is pretty much similar to #1062732.
