Browse for image, but do not click the upload button. Image does not get cropped. How to enforce maximum size?

Issue Summary

I require to be able to crop images to a maxium size, but if a user browses for an image and does not click on upload, the image does not get re-sized. This is a big problem as the site is designed for images of an exact size. If I set the image with cropping field to have a maximum resolution, it cannot load any images larger than that, making cropping useless.

Is there an easy fix for this?
