Today I just enabled Page Compression on Site Configuration--> Performance page and went on to save the options. But eventually it returned 500 Internal server error and the site is not accessible then onwards.
Site is being hosted on a fully managed linux dedicated server from hostgator.com and the thing to notice is that server is experiencing too much load after that 500 internal server error. It has crashed many times in the meanwhile and the support at hostgator is not able to recover the things. Load being experienced is always more than 100 points and I am not able to access whm or cpanel either.
Another thing to notice is that boost was installed earlier on but after getting memcache installed on the server, I decided to uninstall boost just hours before the site began experiencing load and internal server error messages.
No doubt the memcache was working correctly and load was just under control but after the page compression option was enabled on Performance page, site and server crashed eventually. Point to note here is that Gzip compression was already enabled on the server and I was just trying to enable it in the drupal caching mechanism as well.
Site and server are still far from being accessible. Please help

olafkarsten commentedHello nikmahajan, i can fully understand that you seeking help. But this is the wrong place. Please understand, that in the drupal core issue queue nobody can assist you with server setup problems. Please go to forums. There are always great people. Maybe, somebody over there can help you. http://drupal.org/forums
