I guess it should be fairly easy to port the module (sure, one needs to have enough time..). Maybe I'll give it a try in the next days and let you know what happens.

Cool - thanks a lot for your enthusiasm! I've actually already started the porting, so if you can give me a couple of days I can create a 7.x-2.x-dev branch and upload my mostly working 7 code before you start - then we can work on that if you please :)

I've committed and published the initial effort of porting this module to D7 as 7.x-2.x-dev, and it should become visible under releases within 12 hours. Please test and file any found issues as new issues.
