I'm a little bit confused by some of the things you say here.

First, does not know the status of any module that was not installed via a tarball produced by drupal.org. I use Fantastico to install the core system, then download from the modules download area. Am I covered here?

Second, does not track the update times of development versions ... 5.x-1.x-dev. I just looked at my download area and 10 of the 15 modules I use on my various sites have "dev" on them (but "tar" as well). Does this mean you will only monitor one third of my modules?

Lastly, my use of Drupal is currently spread across five live sites and 8 test sites. Is there some way to monitor it all from one place, rather than having to log on to 13 sites to check each one?

1) Yes, if you download tarballs from drupal.org, you are covered.

2) Unfortunately this is true. The solution is to convince the developers of those modules to create official releases. Many developers have not caught up to the new system of doing things for various reasons (inattention and disinterest being the two primary reasons).

3) That's an awesome, absolutely fantastic idea, and is definitely a very good feature request. I'll think about the right way to do it.

Does the Fantastico install count as a tarball?

Oh, and how do I convince the developers of those modules to create official releases when they call those "official releases?"

The easiest way is to file a support request against the module, asking for an official release.

Point them the project page for this module to explain why. There is a link to the release documentation here which will explain how to do it. You can also point them at this blog post which is my less formal explanation of the system (and for some it is easier to understand): http://www.angrydonuts.com/my_informal_take_on_using_the_ne

Okay, I will do that. Yes, I actually read that article when I posted the questions on your site (which haven't been answered yet).

Sorry, I'm not sure what questions you're referring to. Comments on my blog sometimes get missed, it's not a great forum for asking questions that need answers.

#3 opened as a feature request. The rest is taken care of. Closing this.
