String overrides module seems to do nothing

There is currently no content classified with this term. is a nuisance that was on all my catalog pages. In drupal 7 I did download and enable the module and have admin privilege. When I copied the string into the first box, and left the substiotution box blank, saved the configuration, and cleared the cache, the string was still everywhere I did not wnat it to be. There was a box on the resulting configuration page to enable the string. I unchecked the box and removbed the disabled string, with still no result. So the module either doesn't work or is not transparent as to how to use it. I edited the settings.php module instead to blank the array, as I found in http://drupal.stackexchange.com/questions/5275/how-to-remove-there-is-cu... result of a google search. How come the module didn't do anything?
