Is it possible (through UI or code) to upload an image to a particular folder when using ckeditor in a textarea?

Unfortunately when being used with a WYSIWYG we don't have any context of field settings so a directory path cannot be set. It could be the case that this could be implemented in a module but this is not supported with the core media module.
