I know this is a wordpress built site, but the opening slide show is interesting. Any ideas on how they accomplished this and if can be done with drupal views slideshow??

From a quick look at the source, it looks like some custom jquery-- the id for the slideshow is #slideshow, you can always checkout the code they used, but it's likely very specific to the site.

Yea. I found the jquery in the code and ran some google searches on it but nothing came up.

Any suggestions on a drupal theme that could be adapted to model after this site's layout.

nothing even close that i know of. Its so highly stylized you're better off picking a base theme and working through the styles you want.
