Don't want trackback issued for plain text

I am concerned that the trackback module will ping servers for plain-text URLs. That is what it seems to say on the configure page.

There are two reasons I can think of for using plain text rather than a hyperlink:
1) Don't want to promote URL (e.g. (www. someJerk.com is a terrible website, boycott it!")
2) As an example (e.g. "Type www. yourDomain.com into the URL field")

I would not want to ping either domain in this case.

I actually have a special input format set up that does not convert domain-like text into hyperlink for this very reason. I had to put spaces in the above to prevent the conversion here.

Any way of preventing this?
