Showcasing China Artist: www.artistren.com

iandit - March 4, 2007 - 03:58

We are building a new site that is showcasing china arts in general. A mix of e-zine and community that is purely done in drupal.

About us:
"
Artistren.com is the first site of its kind in China: the first site designed as a community for artists, photographers, designers, models and the interested alike to gather and discuss and share their work and their lives. Artistren.com is a place for creatives to gather and for creativity to put down roots and grow.

China’s art and fashion world is an international one, and so are we. Our site is based in, and about, China, but we’re multi-lingual and so are our resources.
"

Check it out. http://www.artiistren.com and please comment on how we can improve the site.

Cheers.

REally nice!

what did you use for the dropdown menus in the left nav?

how did you do the dynamic tabs in the body of the home page?

thanks

How-to

iandit - March 5, 2007 - 00:44

The left nav is the standard DHTML menu that we've re-skinned and as for the tabs on the front page its javascripts. Thanks for reviewing the site and let us know if you need more information.

Peace.

standard dhtml menu.. which module does that.. because out of the box my blue marine theme nav menu isn't js?

when you say reskinned.. i imagine you mean you installed a js menu module of some knid and then just added your own css to retheme it correct?

Regarding the front page tabs.. i know it's js :-).. i thought you'd be a little more specific about how you did it? what technique you used? a home baked solution or did you borrow a tabs implementation /code from the web?

thanks

More details

iandit - March 5, 2007 - 16:11

Yes we are using the js menu and modified it through the css and therefore re-themed it.

As for the tabs, we use samples from different site but in the end made pretty much our own as we needed something that will be more tight in with the drupal system. So we made some modules that can handle the different segments and content that we wanted for it.

Peace.

It's down. :-( Sounds like a great idea, though.

Its UP and never been down.

iandit - March 5, 2007 - 00:42

The site is up... not sure what is wrong or why you can't load...

Try it out again.

Wrong url!

contrariwise - March 5, 2007 - 02:38

I just realized that the URL you link to is artIIstren.com. You put an extra 'i' in there.

Now that I've seen it, I just love it. Great job!

Those darn typos...

iandit - March 5, 2007 - 16:04

Does that mean I have to get that domain so even though you type it wrong I can still cover people's mistakes? :P

Thanks for the comment.

Yes, you do. :P

It looks a bit crude to me, though my browser says something isn't loading. All I see when I go to the site is a single-color set of backgrounds, and it doesn't look that artistic. Are there supposed to be images loading, too?

You have to enable flash and

You have to enable flash and various other scripts to make it work. There are loads of images and a flash video on the front page.

Who's your website developer?

chowzer - April 23, 2007 - 06:34

Hi, very nice site you have there. I have an artist community site which I am planning to port from PHP Nuke to Drupal. I will need the help of web developers to do this.

Did you design and develop the site inhouse, or engaged external expertise?

Cheers

In house

iandit - April 26, 2007 - 03:26

We built the site in house as we are a consulting firm that works to make site like this happen. Drupal is so much better than php-nuke. Let us know if you require our services.
