I am using the File Format conversion action, and was wondering how it will behave with files that are already in the right format? Will it be re-converted, as in a Save As... action? This is important because a JPG converted to JPG will be degraded.

When creating an image derivative for a given style, no intermediate save operations take place. GD keeps the intermediate results in its resource object, ImageMagick in its own process memory.
