Because the help text for fields in D7 does not use an input format, it is not possible to use tokens from core itself. We will try to solve this in Token.module but it's not a high priority.

Marking this as a duplicate of #1070878: Allow tokens to be used in the default value of a field.

Also duplicate of #1308564: Basic token support in fields' help texts. There you will find a D7 patch.
clashar, please help by testing 8.x patch in order to allow me the backport to 7.x.

Patch needs to be accepted into 8.x branch before backport. At least two positive reviews are needed before marking it RTBC for 8.x.
After 8.x issue is done, I will submit the backport to the 7.x branch.
