Another saturday gone debuging!!!!! ARRRRGGGHHHHHHH I HATE BUT LOVE DRUPAL MODS!!!!! Can somone help with the errors below?

I am attempting to get this to run on Fedora 13 with no luck. Its the usual with Mysql, Postfix and other standard things. The output below is the result.

This script will operate the following changes in your system:

1. Create server-level configuration directories
2. Download drush_make
3. Create the Hostmaster frontend platform
4. Install the frontend site
5. Setup the dispatcher (a user cron job)

We are making the following assumptions:
* you have read and are following the install instructions at:
http://community.aegirproject.org/installing
* the FQDN of this machine is valid and resolves
* you are executing this script as your "aegir" user

The following settings will be used:
Aegir frontend URL: localhost
Master server FQDN: localhost
Aegir root: /var/aegir
Aegir user: webadmin
Web group: apache
Web server: apache
Aegir DB host: localhost
Aegir DB user: root
Aegir DB password:

Aegir version: 6.x-1.2
Aegir platform path: /var/aegir/hostmaster-6.x-1.2
Aegir makefile: /var/aegir/.drush/provision/aegir.make
Admin email: root@localhost.localdomain

Do you really want to proceed with the install (y/n): y

Whoa! You better watch it with the caps and poo comments. That will not get you many responses. But I feel your pain. I am having the same issue. I hope someone has an answer.

niccolox’s picture

I am suddenly experiencing it on a hosted Aegir solution.

Weirdly, its only one D7 production platform and I was getting no errors a couple of hours previous

puff3pass1’s picture

Sorry lvto I am really pissed with this program. It seems to be really crappy for Fedora installs even though it makes claims of allowing installs for CENTOS or RedHat descendants.

I know folks create these programs for nothing and I appreciate their hard work but, when I spend two days troubleshooting simple installs I have to ask myself is it worth the time and effort debugging crappy instructions and code. There really should be some level of QA demanded from the Drupal core developers when third party modules are released or third party developers should not be able to claim it’s safe to install. Developers should be made to prove successful installs and operation on any system they claim these modules (or pseudo modules in this case) will run on.

niccolox’s picture

it seems to me, and really I know nothing, that Aegir is mostly devop'ed on Debian, then Ubuntu, and CentOS a distant third

FreeBSD, no idea

btw, I fixed my thing, it was the Domain module.. deleted it and moved on

puff3pass1’s picture

Thanks Niccolo. I really appreciate your taking the time to respond. Looks like the develper has not responded yet. That's unfortunate. I think, in the past 3 days, I have looked at every tiny piece of Drupal and general Internet response directly or indirectly related to this issue. The developer reponse seems to be consistant. I have not seen good responses. Everyone seems to be guessing when it comes to manual install issues and OSs outside the list you provided. The develper has a one page troubleshooting section with no more than 10 issues. Meanwhile, on their Drupal issue page, I see 86 open issues and 437 total.

michelle’s picture

@puff3pass1: I understand you're frustrated but your "should" in #3 is completely unrealistic and enforcing something like that would result in these volunteers who are giving back to the community to say screw it and keep their code to themselves. Drupal is free as far as upfront costs are concerned but nothing is really free. You trade off paying cash with paying in your time. That's how open source works.

Michelle

puff3pass1’s picture

Will all due respect Michelle that’s hot poo too. This is a sore subject for me because I love what the open source community represents. However, if open source continues to mean we should endure bad coding, bad QA, long wait times between secure or working upgrades (2 years in some cases) or zero instructions then, this is precisely the reason why open source will never be accepted in the main stream. I would rather pay some fee or donation so these folks get it right; provide good support and good QA. Today we have a good program like Drupal being tainted with lazy mod programmers with poor documents who use the excuse that since it’s free we should be happy. The open source concept works because its community driven. That means if you spew crap to the community, they will in turn, tell you that its unsecure crap, unusable crap, crappy crap or it smells like crap. That’s how it’s supposed to work. However, we have sensitive programmers who don't like hearing that their crap is crap.

If this idea forces bad programmers (masked as volunteers) to stop developing and go away then I am all for it. Stop giving us the gifts that keep on giving smelly results. These folks reap as much benefit as we do by testing their crappy code on us. In some cases there are folks using this crap for live sites and depending on these guys and gals. These developers get to earn the benefits of saying they have their code on major websites as their portfolio builds OR; they reap the benefits in consulting work. Meanwhile, the poor schmuck who uses this crappy code gets to spend weekends and off days working with the other poor souls online to solve critical issues that critically affect their customers. I have seen some of these crap programmers (one of them rhymes with nicedreamyou) come online and actually yell at the folks who were kind enough to use their crap and had questions.

Drupal core, Redhat, Fedora, Ubuntu, CENTOS and many others are good examples of open source done right. Some of the screwy, unsecure and/or abandoned mods that come along with Drupal are just plain bad examples and should not be put in the same category as good open source.
My venting is complete… :-)

michelle’s picture

Wow.

The sense of entitlement in this thread is overwhelming. I don't even know how to respond to such blatant disrespect of those who pour their time into making your life easier. It's people like you that make me wish the GPL had a no ungrateful jerk users clause.

Title: Hunk of poo!!! ARGGHHHHH » Fedora issues
Category: bug » support
Priority: Critical » Normal

Fedora is not listed as supported system anywhere, so your rant is rather useless and it is not a bug report, it is kind of support request.

Consider converting your efforts to contribution.

Try to debug Fedora specific issues and document them, as it is done here:

http://community.aegirproject.org/installing/manual#RHEL_6_specific_conf...
http://community.aegirproject.org/installing/manual#CentOS-specific_conf...

puff3pass1’s picture

If I am a jerk for asking for what I want then so be it. Its a$$ whipes like you that make open source not desirable to folks who could really make a difference in this community. Adults like me peek in from time to time to see if the good developers in open source have rid themselves of the good for nothing losers who taint this commuity with their poor skills and lousy attitude.

Up unitl now I left off the personal attacks. So if you want a jerk clause in the GPL then, I think you and others like you would be first in line to be booted from your own community based on what I have seen so far. If you will shut your fat mouth for just a sec read and learn, my comments were not to the community as a whole. It was to those folks who hurt it.

If I have pissed you off then that was my intent because more than likely you are the very person I am speaking of. There is not enough legal lanugage that could be put in the GPL to ban poor, loser programmers like you who choose to write crappy code then troll forums to yell at people instead of helping them. People like you more often complain about a snipes to commuity to which you probably dont belong in. So if I have pissed you off to the point were you dont program anymore then I have done my job as a proud member and contributor to the open source community.

To all other crap programming jerks with the notion to follow her footsteps. I am ready. Its time someone said something about you. We all secretly wish somone would take over your crappy mods and make them work.

If you call Adrian a crap developer you certainly are not someone from the Drupal community, or a Drupal developer that has been involved in this project for some time. You're just a new user that's barking at the wrong tree because there particular un-supported setup doesn't work. Adrian has been kind enough to give us gems like Drush an Aegir, which are tools that I use nearly every day, and had absolutely no problems setting up. Calling him or his work crap is completely unfounded and makes you look like a total a**hole. I would probably close your account if I was a drupal.org moderator.

puff3pass1’s picture

@omega8cc:: in case your the actuall programmer and not the one who writes (OR READS) your own documentation; your documentation clearly states the following:

http://community.aegirproject.org/handbook/operating-system-support

4. CentOS and Redhat-descendants <<<<<<--- THAT WOULD BE FEDORA SINCE REDHAT SPONSORS THEM!!!!!
•Install using the manual install process
•Upgrade using the automated script

4.1. Well supported

A few people are running Aegir on RedHat and related operating systems, mostly CentOS. There are a few tricks documented in the manual install process but it's still fairly straightward to install

<<<< THERE ARE NO TRICKS IN THE MANUAL INSTALL PROCESS JUST CONFUSING GUIDANCE THAT DOES NOT WORK

Err umm I never said I contribute to Drupal. I said I contribute to the open source community. See, thats what I am talking about. You folks blindly defend things that are just plain stupid. As to supported set up, I am glad you finally admitted it. Every other thing in the documentation says they do. See my other posts on this subject.

So since you are not a drupal moderator and I have not done anything to anyone that was not done to me first, I will keep my account for now. If someone from Drupal decides to ban my account just because i am not happy with folks who are hurting them then I can live with that. Wordpress, Jamoola or Ning can take my business. But I dont think the real core Drupal folks are as dense and stupid as you crappy modders. You should all be shot. LOL!

So what stops you from going there and editing docs to say there are problems with Fedora you plan to debug and contribute to the community?

If you will not do that, you are an aggressive troll only.

SOOO now I work for you?! You want me to edit your documentation when you have closed my ticket calling me a troll? Are you kidding or smoking crack or both? I tell you what, If I fix your problem with Fedora then can I own the mod for the rest of your life. If, as i suspect, your answer is "hell freaking no" then you will know my answer to your question.

That's a great way to solve your issue, calling for contrib developers to be shot. This guy must live in his own little fucked up universe, where insulting the people that feeds you gets you more food. First, if you don't like Aegir or if it doesn't work on your setup, either use a recommended setup or simply don't use it and stop bitchin'. As to you being a contributor to open source projects, don't make me laugh, there is not one record that I have found of your nickname being active or much less contributing to any open source project. Second, if it wasn't for contrib development, Drupal would never be where its at. Imagine Drupal with no Views or CCK, in fact a lot of the good stuff from contrib was adopted by core in Drupal 7. It just shows how ignorant you are by praising core and then asking contrib developers to be shot down, all the most innovative ideas come from contrib. Core development now mostly focuses on fixing stuff and not really bringing in new features (for Drupal 7). I know we are just feeding a troll, but its sad to see someone blurting out such useless comments in this queue and feeling like they deserve everything when they bring absolutely nothing to the table. If a maintainer closes your issue for a good reason don't re-open it, you can't argue with him.

So you are the supreme idiot. Glad to meet you finally. You have come from the shadows to give us (sorry me) guidance have you?

Do you think at this point I still need help or have I fixed the problem myself? Thats really gotta flip your noodle now right? Could it be that I want you or whomever you represent to understand that people like me are tired of fixing and patching your code, (UNDER DIFFERENT USERNAMES IDIOT) then allowing you to take credit for it.

If you ever put your crappy program in the same light at CCK and VIEWS again, I am going to call you something so nasty that you will laugh at yourself. LMAO!! Are you serious? Veiws and CCK are WELL developed and documented. Your program is not that.

As to closing an account, so far everyone but one person has called me a jerk, troll and offered that I look at documentation that does not exist. Would you say that as a provider of a service, thats the best approach and putting your crappy program in the best light or are you just mad. I am sure when you read this again next week, you will want to kick yourself because the troll wont look as bad as you do. So far, I have been called names but no one has fixed my problem or forget me, how about lvto2000 Looks like that person has a problem still with the same issue. Is that being fixed or are you little kids mad and closing help to lvto and me just because I asked you tough questions and challenged your skill.

So your in on the joke.. I fixed my own problem by fixing your core code. You still suck.. Now you can close this ticket IDIOTS!!!
