My Miserable Failure

About two weeks ago, I had this fantastic idea... You know the idea that I'm talking about. The idea that keeps you up all night. Well, to start things off, I think that I should just say that I have a small little obsession. This is also an obsession that I share with about 500 million other people, and its called MySpace. After playing around on MySpace for a little while, I realized that it would be so cool, if I could replace my friend box with a Flash widget! So, I did what any other super geek would have done with that idea, and I created the MOST ELABORATE Flash widget of all mankind. I conjured up some ActionScript that would actually scan peoples MySpace URL and then magically parse out all the information that I needed to create all the links... Not only that! But I made this thing skinnable. Meaning that anybody could create their own skins! NOT ONLY THAT, but I wrote a Drupal 5 website to allow people to log in, create their Flash Friend box, while I would just sit back and watch the Viral marketing take hold. Don't believe me? Go to http://www.flasherrific.com and see for yourself! You can even click on the link http://www.flasherrific.com/templates to see all the templates I made.

So, here I had this AWESOME idea, this AWESOME website... and when I was done, I said to myself. Hmmmm.... I think I should actually put this in my profile and see if it works! Well, that's exactly what I did... And I almost jumped for joy when I saw that it loaded perfectly! I even did some HTML magic to make the old friend box disappear. But wait!!! I then realized that none of my links were working.... Without the links working, my little Friend Box is USELESS. So, I did some digging on the internet and came across this little depressing article.

And that my friends is what I call a Miserable Failure! I think I will go cry myself to sleep now.

My heart goes out

My heart goes out to you.

Have you thought about creating an animated GIF to use in place of embedded Flash? Clicking it could open a popup window that calls the MySpace user's Flash file that's hosted on your site.

Flasherrific could be a kind of helper Flash app that lives in a popup window.

Hmmmmmm..... Interesting. I

Hmmmmmm..... Interesting. I think I will explore that idea when I am through crying.

Thank you so much for the tip.

It's gonna be alright

hey i've been exploring this issue alot the last couple days one interesting site I found is this http://widgetbox.com which claims to provide widget developers with a way to have flash links working in myspace although I have yet to try this service myself.

Ah, don't you love it when

Ah, don't you love it when you pour your heart into a project only to find out the idea has been taken/obsoleted months ago. Such is the bane of the web2.x developer.. :)
