Suppose a colleague adds me as a friend. And suppose I don't really consider him a friend but just a good colleague? What are my options now?

Reject the offer and offer a "Colleague" relationship instead? Not nice.

It would be great to have a feature like on "Google+" where I can accept the offer and accept my colleague as a colleague instead of a friend. To be able to do that I would need the option to not just accept or decline the relationship but to also classify the relationship according to my need. My colleage would never have to know that I added him as a colleague instead of a friend.

The content sharing would then work accordingly: if I share content to "colleagues" he would be able to read it. And if he would share his content to the types where he added me, I would read his content.

Would an addition like this be possible? That would be really cool.

Cheers,
Paul

See #1265092-1: Suggestion: Relationship types and Groups, something like this will not happen on this level.

Instead, it might be possible at some point to create personal circles/lists/whatever within the same type. This is being discussed in #950260: UR LISTS created by end-users

Of course this would also be a nice solution. In this case I would need only one kind of relationship in UR to establish a two-way connection. And afterwards I can create user lists of people who are able to view my content according to who they are (i.e. colleagues get to see other content than close friends or family).

If I am not mistaken this is already possible in OG if I add some of my relationsships to an organic group called "Friends" and then publish a group post. So how would this be different?

Or are you talking about the acctual addition of a list function (like Google+ circles) into UR? That would be cool.
