Currently, the default input filter removes certain HTML terms. If this default filter is deactivated, all HTML may be entered freely.
I suggest that a better alternative would be to make html invalid by default, and to create two filter categories; one which allows filtered HTML as at present, and one which allows Full HTML access.
It might then be necessary to make BBCode the default filter to allow the input of images/links/url's etc.
This would serve to make the input form cleaner, because for most people html input is unnecessary, and the existing BBCode filter is more than enough. It would also be clear when HTML access is enabled. Under the current system if there is no filtered HTML, then there is simply no entry under "Formatting guidelines" which indicates that HTML is actually available.
