I just finished installing Drupal 4.5 on a new site and I'm having some problems with the forums. When someone makes a post the post is promoted to the front page, updates the categories block, and all that. But when you go to the forum it shows 0 topics, 0 posts and -1 new.

Now, when I try to veiw the forum by clicking on it in the categories block it links me to

http://66.36.228.82/index.php?q=taxonomy/term/16 (which shows my posts)

but clicking on the name of the forum from the forum main page takes me to

http://66.36.228.82/index.php?q=forum/16 (which is empty).

Anyone have any ideas as to how to fix this?

I had this exact same problem, and I'm not sure it was ever properly resolved. Noone else could replicated it.

see: http://drupal.org/node/11298 (Problem #2)

I finally decided it may have been a problem in the database somewhere, and I finally just ended up starting from scratch, and the problem hasn't reoccurred.

I ended up just dropping all the tables and then recreating them as well. Noticed that I didn't have as many tables the first time around as I did the second but I don't know if that had any bearing on it.

I'm working on yet another drupal powered site and once again have encountered this little 'feature' where the forum posts aren't showing up and I'm getting negative counts when topics are added.

Unfortunately this site has been running for a short while and I don't want to have to do a database wipe (as I did last time) to fix this because of all the information I'll have to key back in afterwards.

Thus I'm wondering, hoping, praying, and begging that someone has found an easier fix for this.... please.

I have noticed that if the authenticated users are given the right to submit without previewing first the posts, the posts are not shown in the forums (they appear only if the admin edit/re-submit them). So, in administration/content/configuration, I chose PREVIEW POST - Required and now the authenticated users can post new topics successfuly. Bug probably ...

I am not sure that this is the same problem, but hopefuly it could help you.

Just a short question: do you have the comments.module enabled? Without activating the comments, forums won't work, as subsequent answers of a forum topic are handled as comments. (Yes, it is nowhere mentioned you have to do this. IMHO, this should be added to the documentation ...)

You can file a patch or bug report for this. Otherwise it is likely to be lost. Also, if you are interested, you can join the drupal-docs mail list where folks are starting up a documents improvements effort. Every hand helps.

Oops … I hope, that didn't sound too harsh – I didn't mean to. This issue could be filed here http://drupal.org/project/issues/18753 , is that correct? I actually allowed myself to add this remark in the German translation of the forum-module to prevent any more confusion.

You did not sound harsh. I was merely pointing out ways you could fix a precieved weakness that you were aware of.

I thought you meant it was not documented in the built in help system within Drupal. If you want it to be part of the help system built into Drupal then you would file it as a feature request against Drupal. If you 'fixed' it yourself, then file it as a patch. I believe that the link you have is new and designed to file reports against errors in existing documentation.

If you have documentation improvements, then create content, book page and create it. It will queue for approval. There is a documentation project that is starting up with the goal of redoing much of the site's documentation structure and focus. This will include rolling CivicSpace, Bryght's and the existing site's documentation into a new book at Drupal.org. With the eventual goal of including a sub set of this site's doc's in an install.
