I'd also love to see global chat; this module does absolutely everything I need except for that. Fabulous work! I'll be using DrupalChat anyway because it's the best option for me, but hope to see a global chat feature down the road (it's something my clients need).

The project I am on required global chat, and we went with the BoWoB.com paid service for their chat module -- http://drupal.org/project/bowob

That module has a global chat. Perhaps that's a place to start for code to make this feature happen.

chat room or global chat is very nice feature, and it would be good to set a chat room on any entity, such as node, taxonomy etc.

Yes, I do plan to include global chat functionality.

As nodejs is derived from D7, so I suggest we can start from D7, then think to back port.

It might also be good to have multi-chat ala facebook, where you start a chat with just one person, and then you can add in more people as you go along.

I think there can be two types of global chats - one where you have a public chatroom restricted by user role etc and other one where you start chatting with someone and keeping on adding more people to it. Currently, I am currently working on the first one.

Thanks a lot for implementing and sharing! :) Would it be possible to merge it to the official dev package available through the Drupal module delivering system? So that it would me much easier for us to keep up to the last dev and help testing.

Any chance you can allow the administrator to create more global chat rooms? I would like to create a chat room for children so Adults cannot gain access and and adult room where teens and children cannot access.

Ideal I would like to create 4 or 5 public rooms one for each role type on my website.

I think it would also be great to allow the user the ability to invite other users into a char session so the group can chat with each other.
