This (also) seems like a very important activity to be aware of.

I disagree, seems superfluous to me. Especially on an extranet, I hardly care who joined, much less who left. On an intranet, if someone leaves a team, you probably already know about it; and if someone leaves a group like "water cooler" or "game night" that's not very interesting to me.

This starts to sound like one of the things you see in "chat" applications: the ability to decide what notifications you want. In chat, seeing somebody enter is useful, seeing them leave is moderately less useful, which is why some chat apps let you choose whether you want to see both.

I think it's a BAD idea to start to introduce those kind of configuration things in Activity Stream. Lacking those, then, I kinda feel like Isaac does; I care "less" (though not nothing) about seeing somebody leave a group. I vote we ignore this issue.

I would absolutely want to know who is joining and leaving my group. Especially if those people leaving are important.

Feel very strong about this..

Mike, do you have a use case? Like what kind of group would I actually care about seeing people leave?

The good news is that we already have the ability for users to disable seeing individual types of activity messages in their settings. We don't have a way to set a type as "off" by default though.

I think we should mark this as won't fix... as FB and other social networks don't usually show these things. Opinions?

Title: Activity items do not include group members leaving the group » Activity stream message for when a user leaves a private group

I could see some value in showing when a user leaves a group where content is private since it helps communicate the audience for content in the group. I see this as a "patches welcome" feature :).
