I've done some searching on the forums, but I'm a bit confused.
Basically, here is the scenario.
I need
- a place to store files such as images that appear on the site.
- a place to store files that are only available for download to role1
- a place to store files that are only available for download to role2
User #1 is who is uploading all files.
I've played around with the IMCE module which lets me create subdirectories, but how can I "privatize" a folder so only a certain role can download them?
Any hints will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I am interested in this, too. In fact, I will need such a security feature for my site in order to be able to put it online.
Still looking =(
Can anybody help us out ?
Without being able to implement private files having a members area with access to private files does not work to well =(
Any help or point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
If there is no pre existing way of doing this I will look into creating a module. Just need to know if it can be done first.

in the same position, any solutions yet?
Though I'm using Drupal 6, I'd be very interested in a solution to the original problem posed in this thread.
