Header region

I noticed if you are using JUST the logo and menu in the header region, when you have about 6 or so menu items it starts to drop below the other menu items..

Since I am using JUST the logo and no slogan, why is there still unused space between the logo and menu... I would like the menu to butt up against the logo with some padding of course...

Is there a way to fix this in either the css or -tpl.php file? I have attached a file so you can see what I am talking about.
