Mediafront does not fully support multi-lingual sites

It is quite amazing someone like you has managed to install the mediafront module/OSM player player & got it to really work.
I have tried following the available documentation at mediafront.org, including watching the videos, but the best I come to is, the OSM player with "empty film/audio" media thumbnails. The media itself does not load like shown in the tutorials in the player.

If one uploads a film or imports one from youtube for example, you only see the youtube film thumbnail only in the media module media manager.

So my request is: exactly which steps did you follow to get it to work for Drupal 7?
I urgently need this for 2 projects.

You are right about all you say.
I actually have all those modules installed, including media module, entity, etc.
I followed this tutorial http://www.mediafront.org/documentation/drupalmediafront-osm-cms-integra... & http://www.mediafront.org/documentation/drupalmediafront-osm-cms-integra..., several times, then uninstalling & beginning again from scratch, until I gave up.

A few days ago, I decided to give it a try again, trying to follow that video that makes stuff seem to simple to be, only that when u try the same stuff, & create the mediaplayer field & so on, the uploaded content does not load!

U only have "empty" thumbnails with titles in the player the uploaded audio + video, using those fields described in the tutorial do not load.

Yes I use the media module, which I even had b4 I ever heard of mediafront/OSM player, I have a "media" content type & import youtube videos via the "web" interface & you then see their thumbnails in the library, but not in the player, in spite of trying to have followed the steps of tutor in the video! Same with an audio file or small mp4 video file I upload, only that unlike in his video tutorial, you DONT see their thumbnails.

That's why it's so perplexing. I have noted a number of similar issues on the mediafront project page & mediafront.org forum, which however have not been responded to.

I dont believe it's a big issue, but it just needs to know where one is going wrong.

That's why I'm asking, ... how exactly did u go about installing it? Are u using the most recent versions of modules involved?

I did not use drush, but I noted all the modules included in mediafront.make file, which he refers to in the tutorial, I have ALL installed & enabled.

I'm quite sure you are busy, but I'd appreciate if you mentioned how you went about it. ;)

I'm having the same problem. I have followed the steps in the video but all I get is a player that does not load the video. I'm using media module along with Media: YouTube module to embed videos. Can you tell us the module versions your using, perhaps using a dev version or something will make a difference. Thank You.

The fact that it worked for one more person means it's the right way to go.

I started from scratch again, following your instructions, but when I try to save a content with a vimeo video, I get this error message:

After this I tried uploading a local mp4 file & on saving got:

It's really crazy, I am going to simply uninstall all modules, including media & start from scratch for the 13th time.

It's great to to hear from you.
I do request you to really include any relevant settings of ALL connected modules in the screencast, such as of the media module.
It'd would also help to understand, some issues, like why content does not load, although one gets titles & "empty" thumbnails of submitted content in the player, so one can then correct that specific aspect of the installation.

I tried a completely new test installation of Drupal 7 and this time with just the media, (+ youtube + vimeo) , File Entity, required by the former, mediafront, styles, & views modules.
This time the installation was quick & smooth & media (youtube, vimeo + a audio file) loaded right away with no problem. A locally uploaded mp4 file only played as blank audio (plays on PC as video clip), but I'm going to look into this again as it might not be connected.

I assume there is at least rogue module that is causing the problem, but the problem is identifying which one it is among the several dozen modules being used in a production site. So that's the next step. I had switched to the new dev versions of mediafront & media in the process & they seem to be OK.

The whole thing was driving me crazy as I simply could not understand why doing exactly what was shown in the video tutorial & the simple steps explained above by domineaux were without exception leading me to a dead end each of the probably 20 times I had tried this in the last couple of days & several weeks back when I had tried & given up.

For some reason, an mp4 & a wmv file uploaded from local pc don't play/load, whereas the other mentioned media (mp3, youtube + vimeo) load in playlist & play without a problem.

I also kept getting these error messages now & then, but will try to see exactly when they pop up.

This whole thing is a mystery.
After being able to set up the player as mentioned above on a new Drupal site within just a few minutes, with just the relevant modules + D7 core, I took a production site offline & stripped it down to the same modules/same versions as the new site & try to set this up from scratch as mentioned above. Result?
The player with the empty thumbnails.
I have wasted a whole day on this ...
I don't understand ...
I was hoping to nail down some module or group of them responsible for holding the player set up ...

Here are some things to look for and try...

1.) Are there any JavaScript errors on the page you are trying to show the media player? ( You can see errors by opening up a Development Tool and watching for red indicators of erros on the page ).

2.) Have you tried to install JUST Drupal and MediaFront? Nothing else... then setup a file upload and walk through the video to show the media upload in the player? Doing this will remove all variables... if this works, then gradually build your site by enabling each module one by one and then re-validate the player stays operational.

3.) Try enabling the Debug mode in the MediaFront preset, and then open up the Developer console. It will give out errors if something is not right.

Please let me know if you have better luck.

I tried again several times starting with a new Drupal installation, at first with all the mediafront & media, media_vimeo, media_youtube, chaos tools & file entity, which is required by media & co, + only the Drupal core modules which by default are enabled.

Same problem.

Then I did what you suggest in #2 so that on top of the D7 modules which are enabled by default after a new installation, with Bartik theme, no other content, no further customization, etc. ... only mediafront + OSM media player. No media module this time.
I started by creating a mediafront preset, then created a new type of media, created a video upload field for mp3, mp4, wma & wmv.

I created an image upload field & media player as you do.
Under manage display, I set label to invisible & player to the created preset. The rest => hidden.

When I tried uploading an mp3 file, it was neither loaded in preview or view mode.

So with this minimal installation, I cannot say what could be wrong, but I have forwarded you via the contact form the urls / login to the 3 sites, may be you can quickly see what is wrong.

#1. the one started with, a production site, with a player that failed to load the media.
#2. a site I started from scratch with, with all the media modules enabled + a couple more, mentioned above in #15 that worked within a few minutes of installation - no problem whatsoever with setting up the player
#3. a site installed from scratch with D7.8 & no modules enabled other than the D-Core + mediafront & OSM player, nothing more mentioned lastly.

I will not do anything more and hope you will have a few moments take a look at those sites.

I am able to play the youtube video using the media module to link to youtube. However, I have selected 3 youtube videos, the problem is the player only played the last one i linked. The earlier two weren't shown in the view I created.

Is there anything I have missed? In other word, how can I create a playlist for youtube videos?

Thank you for the prompt reply. After looking through your view setup, one thing I don't understand is the "Format" in your "view" is "Table". Isn't that supposed to be "Media Player" which doesn't have "field settings"?

After following through your "View" setup, I can see that there can only be 1 youtube video link per node. What I am more interested is the player can play several youtube videos one by one through the links we setup in one node.

I finally got it working with the settings as in the attachment. There is a content type 'Media', I don't know where it comes from, because I didn't created it myself. I made a content type called 'Video' myself with exactly the same fields, but then the player won't load anything. Very strange!

UPDATE: Possible source of MY problem

So today, I decided to look at site #3 ["a site installed from scratch with D7.8 & no modules enabled other than the D-Core + mediafront & OSM player,"] mentioned in post #18 above again. Using mediafront presets exported from the working set up did not help.

Compared to the original site #1 & #2:

site#1 is a multilingual site

Site #2, whose installation of the mediafront module + OSM player run very smoothly & very quickly was only in English.

#3, was originally installed only in German.

So I decided to delete the DB of #3 & started from scratch this time only in English. I only enabled, on top of the default D7.8 modules the mediafront + OSM player. I created only one video upload field (file for mp3, mp4, wma & wmv). The player installation worked right away.

I deleted the set up & started from scratch again. Same result. I subsequently enabled the media + m_utube & u_vimeo modules, styles, etc with media asset stuff & these functioned with no problem in both cases.

Then, I decided to do this a third time BUT using a German installation profile. I used exactly the same imported mediafront preset for the 3. The result - no media loaded. This site will primarily be in German ...

I suspect there is a connection. I have had no time to make further tests, but since 3 English only set-ups worked instantly, I think at least other language profiles are part of the problem.

It'd be great if a solution were found ...

I made another smooth installation today (English) and captured this on video & this can be viewed here => http://www.orbituganda.com/basic-mediafront-module-osm-player-set-drupal-7. Though this is very basic, it shows what to do from a fresh installation of Drupal right through to how to get the Open Standard Media (OSM) Player to play an uploaded audio file & display content from Youtube & Vimeo. [It's just a small supplement to the otherwise good documentation at mediafront.org].

The only problem with this set up is video files (mp4/wmv) uploaded, both using multimedia asset/selector & "normal" video upload, don't form thumbnails & when playing, there's no picture but just audio. No idea why.

Another observation that seems to confirm the internationalization & related modules seem to be part of MY problem is this:

For today's smooth set-up mentioned above, I went ahead to enable modules used for a multilingual site. For "media" content, I enabled translation. For the existing nodes with the 4 or so media files where a language was defined, i.e. English or German, the problem of the videos not loading immediately came back. Only those which were "neutral" with no language defined continued running with no problem. So I think something happens to the paths. ... but for the original site (production), in German & English, I must say for that content type multilingual support on the content type settings page was disabled ... so this does not explain everything after all ...

It sounds like you may be onto something, even though I was not able to view your video you posted above. I will run some tests on my end this weekend with multilingual support and see if I have any issues.

Which spyware? Which African scam? For those having a problem with African stuff, but may need some little help, you can view the video directly on Youtube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BxV44RHZ1Rk. That way, you avoid the African connection & are not forced "to download abunch of spyware, etc"

I just noticed today, that when creating that article, after including an embedded video field, I forgot to give permission to the "anonymous" guest to view embedded video for that content type. I could view it as admin, that is why I did not notice it. I have corrected the problem.

I think though, it would have been much wiser honourable domineaux to point that out & say the mentioned video was missing instead of making such serious but totally baseless allegations. That site has NO SPYWARE & is not involved in any scam.
If you are sure it has/is, feel free to report it to Google & co.

Thank you for your "unbiased" feedback. ;) The reason for not being able to view the video was a simple permissions issue, which has been corrected. It's just a normal human error that can come up even on a non-Africa-related site.

As said, making a site multilingual seems to affect this, when you set the language for particular nodes, at least when you start with a fresh Drupal installation.
On an existing multilingual production site, though, I could not get it to run even for "neutral" content, but may be here, some other issues come into play.

Furthermore, there is the issue of uploaded video only playing as audio & with no picture. The screen remains dark. This happened after many trials with wmv & mp4 files.

No exe was pushed to my browser when I visited the page, so I am just going to give lionheart8 the benefit of the doubt. I was just not able to see the video, and I believe lionheart8 has good intentions, so I honestly didn't think anything of it, but figured he didn't have the permissions set properly. I am not sure why a scammer would go through the trouble to make a walkthrough video ( which I really do appreciate ) to simply try and push a virus on you. If that did happen, then it may be coming from one of his ads he posted on his site.

lionheart8, what I would do, is just make sure that the ad networks you are using are legit and are not pushing spam to your users. It is possible that this may be happening without your knowledge if you are embedding a <script> within your page from your ad provider. Just something to look into.

As for the real issue here, I think lionheart8 did stumble on the issue, which is with multilingual support of Mediafront. For this reason, I am changing the title of this issue to reflect that and will look into it this week.

#1. I was in Google webmaster center today. There was no single message from Google.
#2. I requested my web host to find out if the site has been reported for harboring any bad files & to scan it for any. I have just got a report. Results: nothing suspicious.
#3. Both http://stopbadware.org/home/reportsearch & http://www.unmaskparasites.com/security-report/ show there's nothing wrong with orbituganda.com, the proudly African site. The latter lists all external links, etc.

I will be glad to get & act on more authoritative information.

No one really needs to or is being compelled to go to the site or watch the video, which was quickly made & which I hope to improve by adding some annotations, since it's uncommented. For those crazy enough to watch it, watching it in the full resolution of something like 800 something x 500 something makes it much easier to read & follow.

So I hope we can now safely go back to the real issue of mediafront. ;)

I already have a working site whit EmbedMedia and youtube/vimeo plugins working. Today I have come to this module as an exciting way to present my videos while looking how to create a playlist whit them.

My site was installed whit a spanish profile and there is no other languague available, as is just for use on Latam.

I can see the block whit the playlist on it, but it only dislpays the thumbnail and a spining star, but the video never starts. Seems the issue is similart to the one described here.

I'm using MediaFront 6.x-1.1

I experience the same problem as described. I have a multilingual site (although only English is enabled for now). It will only play the video, when the content is "Language neutral". Otherwise the mediaplayer doesn't load the movie.

I made a spanish installation of Drupal, but even if I erase the spanish language and put my site to be only english It dosen't work.

I tried many things, one of them being starting with a site purely in German. The player never worked. I think subsequently switching to English, would not work because of a problem travist is trying to solve.

The only thing that has worked for me is installing the site in English. After that, when you add another language, the player works UNTIL you enable a different language for a particular node, after you make it multilingual.
Both the English + other language translation of the node with player ... the media will not load.

As long as you select no language it does.

That is why travist concluded the module does not currently support multilingual sites & is working on it. There might be other factors, though that cause media not to load.

I tried out 7.x-1.x-dev.

These were my observations:
I installed a site only in German and enabled the mediafront & OSM player modules. On the structure page, there was no Mediafront presets link. On the modules page, the "configure" link merely takes one to "/#overlay=admin/structure/.
Manually adding "/#overlay=admin/structure/mediafront" takes one as far as "/#overlay=admin/structure/"

For some reason, after re-installing Drupal 7.8 in English & enabling the 2 modules, the media does not load. I tried this several times - without enabling any language related modules. My aim was to set up the OSM player first before enabling them & creating content in a different language, to see if there is any effect.

I noted however, if I replaced 7.x-1.x-dev with 7.x-1.3, the media loads with no problem. So I think there's something small missing in the dev version, that prevents media from loading. So I could not try out the multi-language functionality.

With 7.x-1.x-dev dated 28th, September, the problems mentioned in the lower section of the previous post do NOT turn up. The new installation in English run smoothly. I further enabled the internationalization modules and could post multilingual content with no problem.
This also worked on an existing production site that has multilingual content.
No problem as well on a site set up only in German from scratch.
It appears this specific issue is solved in the latest dev. version.

Yesterday i had situation, with identical drupal6x/OSMplayer instalation on two servers. On one of them mediafront player with playlist from view was working nice, on another it looked like it is loading something with empty playlist.
I found, that mod_rewrite was disabled in second webserver instalation. When it was enabled, player started to work.. I did not had to turn on clean url's, turning mod_rewrite on was enough.
Maybe this information will help someone, who is failing to get working player.
