Not sure was it dev or latest release for drupal 6 but I did some modifications :) Added extra classes. Expanded, collapsed, first, last.. and little javascript also, wich can be turned on and off.
Now its better for themer. There are other similar molules also but they had the same problems and yours was simple enough to ..

hacked into Drupal 7 taxonomy block. This one is quite ugly after my visit but will help designers a bit. Added parent and active classes at some cases..

Again taxonomy blocks supporting entity translation and title replacement + extra parent classes.. doesnt work with normalt taxonomy titles just fast hack for someone.. quite nasty but works for a little project.
