Here attached is a patch for 7.x-1.0 version of the module which add Rules 2 "Convert node" action.
It could undergo some DRY refactoring but that's what I ended up to in a limited time. Hope this helps, let me know if you need some more work on it.

bump is the module still being worked on? ran across this module, it would realy help my productivity. Rules would be great.
