'Edit' and 'View' Local Menu Tabs Disappear But Only On Story Content Types??? ..

I've got a strange problem i'm hoping someone can shed some light on.

Normally, when you are logged in AS ADMIN and view a page or story content type you will automatically see the Local Menu 'view' and 'edit' tabs at the top of the page body content. This works regardless of whether you have aliased the node to a different path.

For some reason, as if over night, when i drill down to a story node i no longer see my 'view' or 'edit' tabs?? They're still present on my page nodes though????

Please.. can someone give me an idea here..
