I guess I am going to start this thread with questions and sugesstions.

Suggestion:
I really like the ability to have complete control over what content can be available for your users. But with this content, as always, it needs design. As of version 4.5, a user profile page is really lacking design. And a profile may look something like this.

This design is far too simple for a profile page, espicially with that much information. The only seperation between the categories is a boring old <h1> or <h2> tag.

Can't we come up with something that is actually readable by other users?
Some sort of tables, or margins, or even padding...

Question:
How can we accomplish this via CSS?

I have tried to mess with the CSS for my theme, a hacked bluemarine, but I have had no luck what-so-ever.

Code contributions as always appreciated. ;)

As always, thanks for your time..

It is possible, as long as the html structure of your template doesn't overtly use simple <h1> type tags. Using css you can redefine <h1> and other body tags (for example, I can make all italics appear in grey, or even another font.) I think in your case you would want to use a bit of positioning and bordering.

I'm not familiar with bluemarines layout, but when I start designing I ALWAYS redefine main html tags like h1 and others to my specifications. That way I don't need to do much wrapping with divs and tags, OR I can just link it to another css sheet.

I hate posting to this site from Mac IE 5 at work. Apologies for the crappy bold stuff.

Next time, please use the preview feature before posting.

I did, like I said; I hate browsing this site with Mac IE because it doesn't LET ME see what I'm previewing. I couldn't even read my reply until I got home and used firefox. All apologies, and I will wait to post next time.

Can we please get back on topic?

Now, How would I change the profile so that all of the entries are not lined up in a row?

I would like them in different columns..

I too am trying to customize the layout of the user profile page.

Not only would I like to omit some un-necessary fields...such as the "member for" and others, but, I think it could be made tidier.

Any1 out there know where you can speficy how drupal pulls together the fields?

I'm using 4.5

At the moment I'm looking at using phptemplate and (I think) setting up a profile.tpl.php will probably allow me to bespoke the layout.

have you tried that?

I am just using a hacked bluemarine theme...

Does anyone have any code suggestions for fixing the user profile page?

It is really messy right now..
