Creation of new bookpages stopes working, disapears from "Create content" menu and node cointains no title or body and creating a "book" using that node gives a error and produces a container. Old book pages remains but can not be edited. Trying to uninstall the book wrapper is not posible - it links to wrong point i hirarcy - category/wrapper/book/uninstall instead of admin/content/category/settings/wrapper/book (that doesnt make any diference anyway).

Seems that we have to take down the whole site...

I just discovered the same problem: I cannot create books at all, nor can I outline nodes in books. In modules, category book wrapper is enabled, and there is a second 'book' module, but if I enable it, I get an error. Please help!

I ended up fixing this by simply re-installing all of drupal 5.1, and removing the category module entirely. Not ideal, but it worked.
