Hello,

This ftp.drupal.org was/is down. It is still down as I type.

Before finding this out, I attempted to do a core update to 7.8 and drush first deleted all Drupal files except sites, and then attempted to download drupal 7.8.

Since it was hanging, drush was just standing there, but I noticed all drupal core files on my server (except sites) were removed.

Perhaps this deletion should only occur after successful downloading from ftp.drupal.org

Also found this does happen sometimes

Perhaps it could also report on whether ftp.drupal.org connection was successful , and it should only try for a certain time . drush has been hanging for the past 5 mintues for me.

PS: created an issue #1267524: ftp.drupal.org is down (and project download links do not work as a result)
