When I try to install a fresh version of the newest Drupal, i get a 500 Internal Server Error, but when I try to delete the .htaccess file, the installation page views...

My host is a free Awardspace account (www.awardspace.com)

as I have posted below, getting 500 error when i try to install, seems that htaccess is also to blame on mine (maybe). My host is streamline.net and I have just arranged to have "lock tables" enabled, which might make a difference. Although I have no idea what that means!!!!

Hope someone who knows the answer is going to reply soon!

I was having the same problem on awardspace.com. When I removed the .htaccess file (I renamed it .htaccess.old), I was able to get further. If this works with your setup, it might be a solution for you.

I was having the same problem. Click "Advanced options" when you get to the database configuration screen, and paste in the name of your local host (mine is at fdb1.awardspace.com) instead of the default "localhost".

Cheers!

I realize this is an old post but I thought I would paste htaccess settings that work on awardspace
