Would it be possible, conceptually speaking, to add a feature like "view audience area on node edit"

Something similar to what this module attempts: http://drupal.org/project/og_access_admins

That module is frought with bugs - I've tested extensively and keep getting errors.

I would really like to create a permission for a user to be able to see the audience area and thought this might be able to be added to this area.
